Jessica Singerman is a versatile artist who combines painting, video, sound, sculpture, and installation, often with references to the landscape. Her work aims to engage the senses, reflect the connection to nature, and highlight the fragility of the landscape while leaving room for joy. She aims to evoke the feeling of being in wide, open spaces that inspire wonder and awe.
Emily Gerhold, director of the Sechrest Gallery of Art, describes Singerman's works as vibrant and colorful, with a dynamic brushwork that inspires both excitement and deep calm. Born in 1980, Singerman has lived alternately in France and the United States. She completed her BA in art in 2002 from the College of William & Mary and her MFA in painting in 2004 from the University of Delaware. Her award-winning works are exhibited and collected internationally. Singerman teaches drawing and painting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and lives with her family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
«It's through making things and being in the outdoors that I am able to connect to the world and to find my place in it. In the outdoors, we are reminded of how small we are in the world. We experience the vastness of the universe and at the same time, the interconnectedness of it all."
