Description

This work was inspired by the mythological story of the Goddess Juno's faithful watchman, a giant humanoid - or a sort of monstrous dog - with 100 eyes. After he was murdered by Mercury the Giant-Killer, Juno posthumously honoured him by mounting his eyes in the tail of the peacock. I first read this story in Ovid's "Metamorphoses" when I was a little boy, and the title and colour schemes came to him many years later. This work was in the back of my mind for about 10 years before I got around to actually painting it over the course of Easter 2018! Oh, and yes - there ARE a full 100 'eyes' on it! I do hope it stirs in you the same wistful feeling of nostalgia for past eras of imagination that it does in me.
