Description
This work is an abstract representation of the Hermetic ram-horned skyfather God, a syncretic deity combining attributes of Zeus (the Greek father of Gods and Men) and Amun, The Hidden One (the ancient Egyptian creator God nonpareil). It grew out of my affinity for classical mythology. Traditional associations for this Lord of the Air include the overarching sky; wind, clouds, and lightning; royalty and manifestation; and wealth, prosperity, beneficence, and good fortune. Acrylic paint is used to represent the patterned sweeps and surges of air and clouds against the background of sky-blue, and to form patterns in purple and crimson (crimson being the ancient Roman Imperial "Purple"), the colours associated with the royal Skyfather. The quick-drying immediacy of acrylic paint very much assisted me in creating the sense of burgeoning power, urgency, and activity one thinks of in connection with this archetype.
