“King Solomon’s Mind”

This painting’s title popped into Parhelion’s head one night and he fell in love with it immediately (having enjoyed H. Rider Haggard’s novel immensely!). It took some time for him to decide the layout and then to execute it, as geometric drawing is very different from his usual style. In the end he arrived at this representation of the occult mind of the fabled wonder-worker, King Solomon. To this day Solomon is revered for his magical abilities in summoning spirits, and Western ceremonial magicians still call them forth into a binding triangle from the safety of a circle. Here is the circle with the magician (pentagram) standing in it, the hexagram at his heart. The triangle is before him. God names and angelical script surround the circle and triangle, and all the space around them is filled with the sigils of the 72 spirits at his command. Yes, there are 72 flicked spatters of paint symbolising the spirits!
