“This Arctic Region My Heart Encloses”

This painting is a follow-up to Parhelion’s immediately preceding work, “Nocturne: Conception (A Love Song)”. The joyous desire for union in that work has been all but extinguished by the hurt and bitterness of rejection. This is the feeling when one has been abandoned, stranded in an emotional wasteland, making his way across the bleakness for the sake of reuniting; then a promise of reconciliation is dangled in front of you, that all you’ve dreamed of for years will come true; and you strive on with your arms open to fulfil that promise, only to be casually discarded again, even more cruelly than before. By that time your heart may well freeze right over like the wasteland through which you’ve been moving, and you won’t be able to tell any more where your heart leaves off and the desolation begins.
